Organization’s First Trans Woman President Succeeds its First Trans Man President

MIAMI — A new President will lead Florida’s LGBTQ+ Democratic Caucus, as President Nathan Bruemmer, the first transgender leader of the Caucus, resigns to run for a seat representing Pinellas County in the Florida House. With Bruemmer’s resignation, Kristen Browde, the organization’s Vice President, becomes the first transgender woman to lead a major party Caucus in Florida.

The Caucus represents lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer Democrats with members across Florida and chapters in 21 counties.

“The LGBTQ+ Caucus has never been more needed during this challenging time in our state’s history,” said Kristen Browde, President of the Florida LGBTQ+ Democratic Caucus. “Nathan Breummer has set a high bar in his years of leadership, and it’s our group challenge to raise that bar, to let everyone in this state know that anything less than equality is both un-American and unacceptable.”

A resident of Miami, Browde, an attorney and former journalist with extensive broadcast experience, is representative to the Downtown Neighborhood Association and a member of the Miami-Dade Democratic Executive Committee. She has served as Vice President of the Miami-Dade chapter of the Caucus, the Flamingo Democrats, is the past Chair of the National Trans Bar Association, and is well known as an advocate with a substantial social media following on TikTok. Kristen is divorced and has raised two children.

With Browde’s elevation to president to fill the remainder of Bruemmer’s term, she has appointed Luis Salazar, president of the Hillsborough County LGBTQ+ Democratic Caucus, as vice president. He will fill the remainder of Browde’s term. Officer elections for full terms will occur at a membership meeting in the first quarter of 2025.
